Cultural festivals, etc. Take part in these and have a great time instead of going to some expensive theatre or something. If you are traveling for long periods of time consider renting private accommodation in a city that interests you. Hire a campervan and save a lot of money on hotel rooms by paying a small fee for camping in some of the most beautiful settings in the world.
If you are an opportunistic traveler, a whole world could open up to you in terms of how much savings you can make. Obviously, this is not suited for family travel. But if you are just alone or you are two, you have a lot of travel deals that could be awaiting you.
