Golf, Gastronomy, Beaches, People – Portugal has it all
A long time ago, Portugal was at the forefront of exploring the world. It wasn’t until just recently, though, that it had success as a tourist attraction itself. When it comes to mainstream tsuch as Lisbon, Algarve, and the island of Madeira, the country of Portugal had been out of the spotlight for a long time.ourism, besides a few spots
Present day travelers are learning that Portugal has long been an overlooked tourist destination. A one of a kind form of architechture is offered, along with sandy beaches, art treasures, and delectable cuisine. (Manueline), adorable hand-crafted items, temperate weather, affordable hotels, as well as courteous, friendly residents.
Annually, around 22 million people visit Portugal.
In spite of its diminutive proportions, 225km across and 612km deep. Portugal is among the best tourist destinations in all of Europe. Exploring its surrounding areas is likely to take longer than predicted as there is a diverse, rich culture to experience along the way.
The warm, friendly people inhibit a land of magnificent variety. The highlights are almond trees in Algarve, which looks sort of African, golden wheat fields and large cork forests in Alentejo, ranches in Ribatejo, the traditional ox-driven carts on the Minho plains, the traditional narrow, winding streets in the Alfama in Lisbon and vineyards in the Douro.
The list given of portugal holidays will show you only the beginning part of the numerous discoveries that are to be made in Portugal. You will eventually feel like one of those mariners of old times when you make your own discoveries .
Tourist information about Turkey
The majesty of Turkey is evident in its culture, history, food, and economy.
Turkey claims, with some justification, to be the Cradle of Civilization; though it is possible that the profusion of Greek and Roman ruins and archaeological sites scattered across Anatolia may simply be evidence of endemic inability to repel invading armies.
Turkey also contains a variety of sites sacred to three major religions as well as invaluable cultural and artistic remnants of multiple early civilizations including the ancient Greeks, the Byzantines, and the Ottoman Empire.
But, while most tourist brochures focus on archaeological ruins and artistic masterpieces, few devote the appropriate space to the magnificence of Turkey’s Mediterranean, its self-indulgent pleasures (try to pretend that you are relaxing in a warm mud bath!)or a selection of activities for the nature and sports lovers.
Turkey is an uncommon country, not spoiled and jaded, still in wonder that so many people come from many countries to explore the culture.
It is a strange sight to the foreigners who are not used to the short wearing, camera carrying loudmouths of tourists.
Turks welcome visitors with great generosity. This from a people whose language has no word for “bitter” and who are so poor that 80% of them are unable to afford meat. You can never claim to have seen generosity until you experience Turkish hospitality.

Visit Italy – The most romantic destination on earth
A great experience is visiting the Art Cities in Italy. Blessed with the patronage of a papal representative or ducal family, art treasures in Italy were concentrated in many small capitals consisting of dozens of principalities.
Because of this, these cities are now treasure seekers delights filled with remarkable works of art in every form at many different types of structures. Besides the popular cities of Rome, Florence, and Venice, you can find great art in all types of cities in Italy including such places as Verona and Pisa.
A great place we recommend for more information about holidays in Italy is lonely planet or Frommers.
Candle lights and Italian food can make for a very romantic meal. Dining out is perhaps one of the most treasured of Italian pastimes. No matter how many times you’ve had pizza or lasagna in your lifetime, it won’t even come close to the real thing you’ll find in Italy. All geographic areas have their own tradition which have been around for decades. While in Italy, dine outside and you could be viewing a piazza or church and it is truly heaven on earth. Good eating!
Going to Mass in St. There are few things that can compare with the majesty of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy except for a select group of historic landmarks in Jerusalem. Peter’s is the most famous and important building in all of Christendom located in the Vatican. Some people say the highlight of their whole lives was attending mass here.
Some Things I Like About Travel Which I Am Meant To Dislike
Airports. Flying. Hotels.
We are meant to despise all of them . But I love them all – all three are great fun travel experiences. Here’s why.
Airports.
Are exciting places. You can always feel the great variety of human passions swirling through them. Whenever I’m in one I’m always going somewhere interesting, going home or with somebody who is doing one of these. So there is always some kind of significant emotion going on.
I love the departure lounge, the feeling of anticipation. I love going through customs. Shopping for duty free. Crying and waving goodbye. Though I’m completely with Douglas Adams, the author who once wrote “It is not by accident that no culture on Earth has ever come up the phrase ‘as pretty as an airport’”.
Flying
Is amazing. For starters, every time you fly you do something every single human who ever lived before 1900 dreamed of doing but couldn’t. Think about that – Da Vinci, Caesar, Shakespeare, Newton – people who accomplished phenomonal things. All would have given much to have experienced what exhausted businessmen complain about.
Anyway flying is fun. You get enforced shut off from the world so you can sit there and read, write, watch films, play games, think or whatever without distractions. How often do you get the chance outside of flying. Stewards bring free food and drink to you. Great little meals inside cute little compartments.
You get breathtaking views outside your window. You get to travel to the other side of the planet. Or a city near you. Very quickly.
Hotels
Hotels are cool. You get a perfectly made up room. And its neat. You get to feel excited as you unpack.
Weird things in hotels are fun. The tight bedsheets. The folded arrow shape on the toilet paper. The long and trippy hallways.
The reason we travel is to experience things anew, to feel fresh and alive. Whether its a resort, a backpacker hostel or something else. We travel for the experience. All of it. Even the bits we are meant to hate.
Notes from my trip to Spain
While visiting Spain, there are many various activities to enjoy from skiing in the mountains to planning a scenic trip by car. Some of the best things to do will be listed.
Andalucia is in close vicinity to more well known tourist destinations like Malaga and Torremolinos. During the late spring, you can ski in the morning and be on the beach; bathing in the sun, by afternoon Amazingly insane!
Local village fiestas are often religion oriented but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time. It is worth it just to see the colourful processions, with the all-night parties as well. To find more about Spanish Fiestas you should look here.
The most impressive building to visit built by Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona is Parc Guell. Many buildings and sculptures in the huge park feature Gaudi’s signature broken tile style, and beautiful organic curves.
Everyone enjoys a day away from home, eating Tapas! Bite-sized Tapas along with a wine, beer or a sherry are all the reason you need to travel to Spain!
Being captivated by the excitement of Flamenco is truly worth the journey to Spain. Flamenco is better experienced in an old bar room, in a neighborhood much like Barrio de Triana in Seville. Spain and Flamenco are synonymous! Wherever you go in this vibrant country you can expect to hear feet tapping and castanets rattling far into the night.

The Canaries – Paradise on earth
While the Canary Islands are still part of Spain, they are located much closer to Africa than they are to the Spanish mainland.
In the Atlantic Ocean there are seven islands which are located south of the Iberian Peninsula by approximately 1350 kilometres. Morocco is their closest neighbour (Ninety-Five km E. of Fuerteventura) climates are wonderful all year round temperatures rarely below 18c in winter and 24c in the summer
The Canaries are also known as “The Land of Eternal Spring”. Vacations in the sub-tropical countries are great because of its sunny and dry weather all year round. There’s little doubt why over ten million global travelers migrate to these lands annually!
There are five main hot vacation islands of the archipelago which include: La Palma,Tenerife,Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote and the two smaller unsettled islands of Hierro and Gomera.
Underneath the Atlantic Ocean rest the islands which are the apex of a large volcanic mountain limit. The presence of seven of Spain’s main natural reserves is a testament to the exceptional beauty of the Canaries.

Fishing Vacations In The Peak District
Barlow is a prime example of a typical village in this area of the Peak District and is located a little off the normal tourist routes and Peak District holidays main areas, that doesn’t detract from its beauty though.
Although industry has now scaled down in favour of tourism in the area, Barlow was not all that long ago a busy open cast mining centre with mining activity taking place in the village as well, which gives it a unique character.
Today, the village has changed considerably.
Located 4 miles from Sheffield and Chesterfield, Barlow is a rural village on the B6051. There are a number of self-catering cottages for rental here, ideal for holidays in the Peak District and they are a great jumping off point for visitors to the area and are a peaceful destination in themselves.
For fishing holidays Peak District is excellent and Barlow is a dream come true; the Barlow Trout and Coarse Fisheries are on the site of a former mine and offers four lakes and a freshwater stream. Trout is stocked weekly in the lakes and thanks to the paths and roads originally built for the mining industry, there is little mud here, even after heavy rains.
There is disabled access and ample cottages on this 50 acre site, with day tickets being easy to acquire in Barlow.
Barlow is a very old village indeed – it is even mentioned in the Domesday Book and St. Lawrence’s Church, which serves as the village church was built in the mid-twelfth century.
A self catering holiday in Barlow doesn’t mean that you’re all on your own – there are many pubs in this part of the Peak District. Valley Road’s Trout Inn is famous for its food. Barlow’s Peacock Inn is also known for its fare and is in a building dating to the 1600s.
The Three Merry Lads, The Hare and Hounds and The Old Pump are also present, with many simply choosing a pub based on proximity too their lodgings.
Between the Peacock Inn and St. Lawrence’s church is a tea shop, located in Hackney House Antiques which will show you that you needn’t be in Devon or Cornwall to get a truly outstanding cream tea.
At the edge of the Peak District National Park and striking distance from all that the city of Sheffield has to offer, Barlow is a holiday spot which definitely merits your consideration.
The Peaks are a great family or couples holiday destination and visitors often return many times later.
Holiday Cruises Booming
Have you ever been on a holiday cruise before? I haven’t, although it is something we have discussed several times. According to many holiday industry experts there are a lot of people like us and 2008 is the year when Cruise holidays are going to become very popular.
There are a number of reasons why a holiday cruise is appealing to us. First of all and perhaps the most important consideration for a lot of people is that the price of cruising has come down a huge amount. This now makes it a viable alternative to your 1-2 weeks in a Hotel in Spain holiday. Secondly for a family like ours it seems that children are now more readily accepted on cruise holidays. The old image of a bunch of pensioners dithering around a boat is fading quickly, of course as more children start to appear on cruises then it becomes more likely that even more will want to go. A large part of the consideration of us going anywhere is to think about if our daughter will have other children to play with. After all it is her holiday as much as ours and we wouldn’t want her getting bored, for all our sakes!
Yet another great thing about Cruises is the idea of seeing more than you would from your average holiday. We are not huge sight-seers but we do like to see new things. By booking a multi-port cruise it can almost be seen as having multiple holidays in one. It sounds funny but as somebody who was brought up around the sea you also get a different perspective on things from a boat. Things that you take for granted from the shore can often look spectacular from the sea.
So there are lots of reasons to think about booking a cruise holiday this year. The only niggling doubt that remains for us is the food. It’s a silly doubt really considering the number of cruises happening around the world at any one time, but all it takes is one over blown news report of food poisoning to put a doubt in place. Either way if we don’t get the chance this year we’ll certainly be going next year.
